Smooth Dances:

Waltz - This is the classic first dance at many weddings. This dance is made distinctive by the strong use of the Riset Fall. Waltz flows elegantly around the room, and is the only dance that follows an odd count of 1-2-3 for its basic.
 
Foxtrot - A dance that most beginners feel is boring, but change their minds as they progress in their dancing. This dance covers the room in terms of movement and versatility, and it allows for playing in terms of timing. Great ballads of the 40's and 50's make this a great dance. This is the best dance for developing lead and follow.
 

Tango - This dramatic dance has its roots in Argentina. Staccato foot and leg action as well as close body position make this dance stand out from the others. There are interesting timing changes as most steps alter the timing.
 
Viennese Waltz - By far the most elegant of all dances. Very fast classical music make for great movement and flow. This dance will set you apart.
